Details

September 27th marks 200 years since the world's first passenger train ran. Bergen's Technical Museum – which is about transportation and mobility – is marking the event by firing up the museum's own steam engine on Sunday, September 28th.

450 excited people took part in the very first ride, which went from Darlington to Stockton at a speed of an incredible 24 km/h. This was the start of the railway as a means of public transport. Today, almost 100 million passengers travel by train annually in Norway.

Come see our steam engine in operation, and hear the engineer explain. If you have a steam engine from your childhood in the attic, bring it along and fire it up with us. Bring your children and grandchildren and experience the beginning of the adventure that set the world in motion and created the prosperity we enjoy today. Free admission and tram ride for anyone who brings their own steam engine.
